Ribbon and Vinyl Roll Rack

A rack for ribbon spools or vinyl rolls: two end brackets holding up to four rods (wooden dowel or pipe, cut to your width), on the desk or on the wall.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Ribbon and Vinyl Roll Rack

A rack for ribbon reels or vinyl rolls: a pair of end brackets with open hooks that hold one to four rods. Use wooden dowel or pipe cut to the width you want, so it can be as long as your shelf. On the desk the rods step back and up; on the wall they stack down a back plate with two screw holes.

What you can change

  • Stands: on a desk or shelf and on the wall.
  • Pick its colour.
  • Adjust rods, rod diameter, biggest roll and space between the brackets.
  • Turn on or off: base board joining the brackets, cut-outs in the base and caps for the rod ends.

What you download

An STL or 3MF for any slicer.

Printing it

Prints flat with no supports: two brackets, the same both ends, and the base board (in two halves that slot together if it’s longer than your plate). Push the brackets’ feet into the base’s sockets. Cut dowels (or pipe) to the space between the brackets plus about 20 mm (10 mm out past each bracket for the caps); the hooks are 0.6 mm wider than the rod so it lifts out easily. The caps print open end up and push on over the rod ends.

Ideas for using it

  • Ribbon reels by a gift-wrapping table.
  • Vinyl rolls next to a cutting machine.
  • Twine and string for crafts.

Questions

What rods do I use?

Wooden dowel, aluminium or plastic pipe, or a broom handle cut to length. Set its diameter; the hooks are 0.6 mm bigger so it lifts out easily.

How wide can it be?

As wide as your rods: the brackets are the same whatever the length.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
