Sewing Machine Thread Stand

A thread stand for big cones and overlocker thread: a base with spool pins and cone seats, and a tall mast with a guide eye, so thread comes up off the cone and down to the machine without tangling. One to four spools; the mast prints flat and pushes in.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Sewing Machine Thread Stand

A thread stand for cones that are too big for the machine’s own spool pin: a weighted base with a pin and a cone seat for each spool, and a tall mast with a guide eye at the top, so the thread lifts off the cone, runs through the eye and down to the machine without catching.

What you can change

  • Pick its colour.
  • Adjust spool pins, spool pin diameter, spool pin height and cone base diameter, and more.

What you download

An STL or 3MF for any slicer.

Printing it

Prints with no supports: the base upright with its pins, the mast flat beside it. Push the mast into its socket (glue if loose). Put a coin or two under the base's felt for weight with heavy cones.

Ideas for using it

  • Big cones of thread on a domestic machine.
  • All four overlocker cones on one stand.
  • Embroidery machine thread.

Questions

Why the tall mast?

Thread coming straight up off a cone and through a guide above it unwinds without twisting or catching, which stops tension problems.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
