Yarn Bowl

A yarn bowl that keeps your ball or cake from rolling away: straight, rounded, low and wide, or a witch’s cauldron on feet. A curl, S-curve or wave slot (up to three) ending in a hole, paw print, heart, star or flower, with engraved paws, butterflies, hearts, stars or bats round the side, a name, or a texture.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Yarn Bowl

A yarn bowl for knitting and crochet: heavy so it stays put, with a slot down the side that the yarn feeds through and can’t jump out of. Pick the shape (straight, rounded, low and wide, or a witch’s cauldron on feet), the slot (a curl, an S-curve or a wave round the side, up to three of them) and what it ends in (a hole, a paw print, a heart, a star or a flower), then engrave paws, butterflies and flowers, hearts, stars or bats and pumpkins round the side, and a name on the back.

  • Yarn slot: curl, S-curve and wave round the side.
  • Slot ends in: A round hole, A paw print, A heart, A star and A flower.
  • Engraved round the side: nothing, paw prints, butterflies and flowers, hearts, stars and bats and pumpkins.
  • Font for the name: 29 to choose from, from script to stencil.
  • Outside texture: none, ribbed, lines and tiles, and 3 more.
  • Pick its colour.
  • Adjust diameter, height, wall thickness and slots, and more.

What you download

An STL or 3MF for any slicer.

Printing it

Prints upright with no supports, about two hours for the default size: every curve, the cauldron’s feet and handles included, leans no more than 45°. A wide, heavy base keeps it steady; PETG or PLA with 3 walls is plenty. Sand the slot’s edges lightly so the yarn runs smoothly.

Ideas for using it

  • A rounded bowl with a paw print slot for a knitter who loves cats.
  • A low garden bowl with two wave slots, for colourwork with two balls.
  • A black cauldron with bats for Halloween crochet nights.
  • A gift with the knitter’s name on the back.

Questions

How long does it take to print?

A couple of hours at the default size; it prints upright with no supports, even the cauldron’s feet and handles, which lean no more than 45°.

Will the yarn catch on the slot?

Sand the slot’s edges smooth after printing, and the yarn will run freely.

Why more than one slot?

For colourwork: each strand gets its own slot, so two or three balls in the bowl don’t tangle.

Can I have a texture and motifs?

Textures suit the straight and low bowls; motifs and a name work on every shape. Choose one or the other for a cleaner look.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
