About the Laser-Cut Ribbon and Vinyl Roll Rack

A laser-cut rack for ribbon reels and vinyl rolls: two brackets with open hooks for up to four rods, a back stretcher and a base, all joined tab and slot, so it pushes together square without screws. Use wooden dowel or pipe for the rods, cut to the width you choose.

Printing it

Untested: we don’t have a laser cutter yet, so this hasn’t been cut and tried on a real machine. The tabs and slots are checked on screen, but cut a small one first, and tell us how it goes. Measure your sheet with calipers and set your kerf: the tabs are cut to match, for a push fit. Put the stretcher’s foot into the base, push the brackets down over its end tabs and into the base, then drop the rods in and push a stop ring on each end, outside the brackets. 6 mm ply is sturdiest for big rolls.

Ideas for using it

  • Ribbon reels by a gift-wrapping table.
  • Vinyl rolls next to a cutting machine, in 6 mm ply.
  • A matching set with the laser-cut desk organiser.

Questions

What thickness of sheet?

3 mm ply is fine for ribbon; use 6 mm for heavy vinyl rolls. Measure your sheet and set the thickness and kerf, so the tabs push in snugly.

What rods do I use?

Wooden dowel or pipe of the diameter you set, cut to the space between the brackets plus about 20 mm.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The PDF itself is never for sharing or selling.
