Washi Tape Dispenser

A washi tape dispenser: a rod through the rolls with spacers between, end walls it rests in, and a saw-tooth front edge to tear the tape on, your name along the front. Sized to your rolls.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Washi Tape Dispenser

A desk dispenser for washi tape: the rolls turn on a rod with spacers between them, and the front edge has a row of little teeth to tear the tape cleanly. Your name is engraved along the front. Set how many rolls, their width and their core size.

What you can change

  • Type your own name on the front.
  • Font: 29 to choose from, from script to stencil.
  • Cutting edge: printed teeth and slot for a piece of hacksaw blade.
  • Pick the main and rod colours.
  • Adjust rolls, tape width, core hole and biggest roll.

What you download

An STL for any slicer, and a 3MF with each colour as its own part, ready for an AMS or a filament change.

Printing it

Prints with no supports: the base standing up, the rod standing on its cap, the screw cap on its closed end, and the spacer washers flat. To fill it, unscrew the cap and slide onto the rod a washer, a roll, a washer, the next roll and so on, ending with a washer; drop the rod into the end walls’ notches and screw the cap back on. The caps sit outside the end walls, so the rod can’t slide out. Measure your tape roll’s core hole with calipers: the rod is made 0.8 mm smaller so rolls turn freely. The name is engraved into the front of the cutter. For the blade slot, snap a standard 12.7 mm hacksaw blade to the slot’s length (4 mm shorter than the space between the end walls), grind or tape its ends, and push it in teeth up.

Ideas for using it

  • A planner or journal desk set.
  • Sorted by colour for scrapbooking.
  • A gift with a few rolls of tape.

Questions

Will my tape fit?

Measure a roll’s width and the hole in its middle with calipers; the rod is made 0.8 mm smaller than the hole so the rolls turn freely.

How do the rolls go on?

Unscrew the cap from the rod’s end and slide on a washer, a roll, a washer, the next roll and so on, finishing with a washer. Drop the rod into the notches in the end walls and screw the cap back on: the caps sit outside the walls, so the rod can’t slide out.

How do I change a roll?

Unscrew the cap, lift the rod out of the notches, slide the rolls and washers off, and put them back on in the order you like.

Do I need a multi-colour printer?

No. Print it in one colour, or in colours with a filament change: the Colours line under the 3D view says at which height to change. With an AMS or another multi-colour printer, the 3MF prints it in one go.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
