Sewing Pattern Weights

Sewing pattern weights: flat hexagons, scallops, hearts or circles with a pocket underneath for coins or washers to make them properly heavy, and a word or name on top in a second colour. They hold paper patterns and fabric still while you cut. Comma-separate words for a batch.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Sewing Pattern Weights

Pattern weights for sewing: flat weights that hold paper patterns and fabric still while you cut, with a pocket underneath for coins or washers so they’re properly heavy, and a word or name on top in a second colour. Hexagons, scallops, hearts or circles, as a batch.

What you can change

  • Type your own words on top.
  • Make one, or a whole batch at once: paste a list of names and get one each.
  • Shape: hexagon, scallop, heart and circle.
  • Font: 29 to choose from, from script to stencil.
  • Pick the weight and words colours.
  • Adjust size across, thickness, pocket underneath for and pocket depth.

What you download

An STL for any slicer, and a 3MF with each colour as its own part, ready for an AMS or a filament change.

Printing it

Prints flat with no supports, the pocket underneath. Fill it with coins (a £2 coin is 28.4 mm, a 2p 25.9 mm) or steel washers, glue them in, and stick a felt pad over the pocket so it won't scratch the table.

Ideas for using it

  • A set reading SEW, CUT, PIN, PRESS.
  • Weights with a sewing friend’s name.
  • Hearts for a quilter’s gift.

Questions

How heavy are they?

As heavy as what you put in: four £2 coins stacked make one weigh about 50 g. Glue them in and cover the pocket with a felt pad.

Do I need a multi-colour printer?

No. Print it in one colour, or in colours with a filament change: the Colours line under the 3D view says at which height to change. With an AMS or another multi-colour printer, the 3MF prints it in one go.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
