Seam and Hem Gauge

A seam and hem gauge for sewing: steps along one edge, each exactly one seam allowance or hem depth, labelled, and a ruler along the other. Inches (1/4 to 1 inch) or millimetres, with your own allowances. Lay the step on the fabric edge to mark or press an even hem.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Seam and Hem Gauge

A seam and hem gauge: a flat gauge with steps along one edge, each exactly one seam allowance or hem depth above its base line and labelled, and a ruler along the other edge. Lay a step on the fabric’s edge to mark or press an even hem, in inches or millimetres.

What you can change

  • Type your own allowances.
  • Units: inches and millimetres.
  • Pick its colour.
  • Adjust each step's width, gauge depth below the steps and thickness.
  • Turn on or off: ruler along the bottom edge.

What you download

An STL or 3MF for any slicer.

Printing it

Prints flat with no supports. The steps are drawn to size, so they're accurate; check one against a ruler.

Ideas for using it

  • Pressing even hems on curtains and trousers.
  • Checking quarter-inch seams when quilting.
  • Marking seam allowances on a pattern without one.

Questions

Can I choose my own sizes?

Yes: type fractions like 5/8 or 1 1/4 for inches, or millimetres; up to 12 steps.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
