Clay Depth Guide Tray and Stand

A depth guide for polymer clay: a base with corner posts and a stack of frames, each one step thick. Stack as many as the depth you want, fill the well with clay and scrape it level for an even slab. Set the well size, step and number of frames; a different colour for each.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Clay Depth Guide Tray and Stand

A depth guide for polymer clay: a base with a post at each corner, and a stack of frames that drop over the posts, each one step thick. Stack as many frames as the depth you want, fill the well with clay, and scrape or roll it level with the top frame for an even slab every time. Each frame has a tab with its thickness, and can be a different colour.

What you can change

  • Pick the base and posts colour.
  • Adjust well length, well width, each frame's thickness and how many frames, and more.
  • Turn on or off: A different colour for each frame.

What you download

An STL for any slicer, and a 3MF with each colour as its own part, ready for an AMS or a filament change.

Printing it

Prints flat with no supports: the base with its posts, and the frames beside it (over more plates if they need them). Each frame's thickness is its print height, so measure one with calipers and adjust "elephant's foot" compensation if it's off.

Ideas for using it

  • Slabs of a set depth for coasters and tiles.
  • Even layers for stacked or striped clay.
  • Pressing out a sheet of fondant or marzipan to an exact depth.

Questions

How deep can it go?

Frames times the step: 8 frames of 1 mm make up to 8 mm. Add frames for deeper, or make the step 0.5 mm for finer control.

Will it fit my printer?

The base and frames are spread over as many plates as they need; a smaller well fits more frames on a plate.

Do I need a multi-colour printer?

No. Print it in one colour, or in colours with a filament change: the Colours line under the 3D view says at which height to change. With an AMS or another multi-colour printer, the 3MF prints it in one go.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
