About the Book Page Holder

A thumb ring for reading with one hand. It stands on edge across an open book: the point underneath sits in the spine, the two ends rest on the pages either side, and your thumb comes up through the hole from below to hold it all in place. Choose the classic arch (with windows in the wings to save filament, if you like), a diamond, a lying cat or a bat, set the hole to your thumb, and add a name on the front and a few words along the top edge, engraved or inlaid in a second colour.

What you download

An STL for any slicer, and a 3MF with each colour as its own part, ready for an AMS or a filament change.

Printing it

Prints lying flat, with no supports. Measure your thumb across its widest part (or wrap a strip of paper round it and divide by 3.14) and add 1–2 mm so it slides in easily. To use it, put your thumb up through the hole from underneath, with the point in the middle of the book and the ends resting on the pages. For an inlaid name, the 3MF has the second colour set already.

Questions

What size hole do I need?

Measure across your thumb at its widest (or wrap a strip of paper round it and divide by 3.14) and add 1 to 2 mm. 19 mm suits most adult thumbs; 16 mm suits children.

Can I put a message along the top?

Yes, on the classic and diamond shapes: the words follow the curve of the top edge, so they read when it’s standing in your book. Short phrases work best (about 25 letters on a 95 mm holder); make it longer for more.

How do I use it?

Open the book, set the holder across the middle with its point in the spine, and push your thumb up through the hole from underneath. To turn the page, slide your thumb out, turn it, and put the holder back.

Does it work for big books?

Make it longer (120 mm or more) for hardbacks and large paperbacks, so the ends reach further across each page, and thicker if you like a firmer hold.

Do I need a multi-colour printer?

No. Print it in one colour, or in colours with a filament change: the Colours line under the 3D view says at which height to change. With an AMS or another multi-colour printer, the 3MF prints it in one go.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
