Stocking Holder

A name plaque that clips over the edge of the mantel shelf, sized to its thickness, with a hook for the stocking below. Stars, snowflakes, trees or hearts either side of the name. Paste the family's names for one each.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Stocking Holder

Personalised stocking holders that clip over the front of the mantelpiece: no nails, no screw holes, and no heavy weights sliding off the shelf. You give it your mantel’s thickness and it makes the clip to fit, with each name in a second colour and a hook for the stocking.

Stocking Holder: a customisable 3D print, shown at its starting settings

What you can change

  • Type your own name.
  • Make one, or a whole batch at once: paste a list of names and get one each.
  • Font: 26 to choose from, from script to stencil.
  • Either side of the name: nothing, stars, snowflakes, trees and hearts.
  • Pick the plaque and name colours.
  • Adjust letter height, plaque width, mantel shelf thickness and how far it grips over the shelf, and more.

Size

About 9 × 3.9 × 10 cm (width × depth × height), one piece at the starting settings.

What you download

An STL for any slicer, and a 3MF with each colour as its own part, ready for an AMS or a filament change.

Printing it

About 28 g of PLA and about 1 hour 40 minutes to print, one piece at the starting settings (15% infill, 2 walls, 0.2 mm layers, on a Bambu Lab A1). Your slicer gives the exact figures for your printer and settings.

Prints lying on its face with no supports: the name goes in the first layers, so swap filament (or let the AMS) after them. Slide it over the front edge of the mantel shelf; the arms grip it. Mind the weight of what goes in the stocking.

Questions

Will it fit my mantelpiece?

Measure the thickness of the front edge of your mantel shelf and set it in the designer: the clip is made to that size, with a little grip.

How heavy a stocking will it hold?

A filled stocking is fine on the hook, as the clip grips the shelf rather than hanging from it. Very heavy presents are better under the tree than in the stocking.

When should I print it for Christmas?

Most of these print in an evening, but give yourself a week or two before Christmas for a whole family’s worth, a colour change or a reprint. If you’re posting them, print by mid-December.

Do I need a multi-colour printer?

No. Print it in one colour, or in colours with a filament change: the Colours line under the 3D view says at which height to change. With an AMS or another multi-colour printer, the 3MF prints it in one go.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

No 3D printer? Can you print it for me?

Yes. Buy it printed from our shop, with your names and colours from the designer, made to order in our UK studio.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
