Organic Book Holder

A flowing, organic book holder: one band folded into tiers that books lie flat in, opening front and back in turn. Round or square bends, smooth or textured, sized to your books, with two to five tiers.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready STL, or a multi-colour 3MF. No CAD skills needed.

About the Organic Book Holder

A book holder made from one band, folded back and forth so its runs make tiers. Books lie flat in each tier, which opens to the front and the back in turn. Make the bends round, for a flowing organic shape, or square with rounded corners; press a texture into the outside (ribs, lines, tiles, bricks, diamonds or honeycomb); and size it to your books: how deep, how long, how many tiers and how much space each tier has for the pile.

What you can change

  • Bends: round and square, with rounded corners.
  • Outside texture: none, ribbed, lines and tiles, and 3 more.
  • Pick its colour.
  • Adjust shelf depth, length, tiers and space in each tier, and more.

What you download

An STL or 3MF for any slicer.

Printing it

Prints standing on one end, the S flat on the bed, with no supports; the pressed-in textures print without supports too. For a sandy textured look instead, leave the texture off and turn on fuzzy skin in your slicer (Bambu Studio: Others → Fuzzy skin, outer walls). Three or four walls and 15% infill make it strong without much filament; a brim helps it stay down on a big print. Measure your books: depth a little more than their width, each tier a little more than the pile is tall.

Ideas for using it

  • Your current reads and to-be-read pile on the bedside table.
  • Manga or comics series on a desk.
  • Notebooks and sketchbooks by the computer.

Questions

How do I size it?

Measure your books: make it a little deeper than they are wide, and each tier a little taller than the pile you want in it. The length can be a bit shorter than the books, so they stand out at the ends and are easy to pick up.

How do I get a textured finish?

Choose a texture in the settings and it’s pressed into the outside of the band. For a soft, sandy feel instead, leave it smooth and turn on fuzzy skin in your slicer (outer walls only).

How much filament does it use?

The designer shows an estimate. Three or four walls and about 15% infill keep it strong; it’s one of our bigger prints, so check the size fits your printer.

Which printers and slicers does it work with?

Any FDM printer. The STL opens in every slicer; the 3MF keeps the colours as separate parts in Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura. Pick your printer in the designer to check it fits the plate.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The STL and 3MF files themselves are never for sharing or selling.
