Laser-Cut Desk Organiser

A tiered desk organiser to laser cut from plywood or acrylic: one to four tiers stepping up to the back, any number of compartments in each, stepped sides, finger scoops and an engraved name. Tab-and-slot, so it pushes together; sized to your sheet thickness and kerf, as an SVG for LightBurn, xTool or Glowforge. Not yet tested on a laser.

Customise it in your browser, then download a print-ready PDF to print at home. No design skills needed.

About the Laser-Cut Desk Organiser

A tiered desk organiser to cut on a laser, made to your sizes: one to four tiers stepping up from front to back, as many compartments in each as you like, and stepped side panels like the ones in the shops. It goes together with tabs and slots, so it pushes together without glue, with finger scoops along the front and your name engraved on it if you like. It comes as an SVG for LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, Glowforge and other laser software, laid out on your sheet. Please note: we don’t have a laser cutter yet, so this hasn’t been tried on a real machine.

Printing it

Untested: we don’t have a laser cutter yet, so this hasn’t been cut and tried on a real machine. The tabs and slots are checked on screen, but cut a small one first, and tell us how it goes. Measure your sheet with calipers and set your kerf (a 20 mm square cut and measured): the tabs are cut to match, for a push fit. Put the walls and dividers into the base first, then press the sides on. A dab of wood glue makes it permanent.

Ideas for using it

  • A desk tidy for pens, sticky notes and clips.
  • A craft caddy for paints, brushes and tools.
  • A level drawer insert sized to your drawer.
  • A make-up or bathroom organiser.
  • A personalised gift for a teacher or colleague.

Questions

Has this been tested?

Not on a laser yet: we don’t have one. Every tab is checked on screen to meet its slot exactly, with no gaps or overlaps, but please cut a small one first and tell us how it fits.

How does it go together?

Push the walls and dividers into the slots in the base, then press the two sides on over the walls’ tabs. It holds by itself if your thickness and kerf are right; a dab of wood glue makes it permanent.

The tabs are loose (or too tight)

Measure your sheet with calipers and enter that thickness, then set your kerf (cut a 20 mm square, measure it, and the shortfall is the kerf). A bigger kerf makes the fit tighter.

Can it be all one height?

Yes: set the front and back heights the same for a level tray or drawer insert.

Which lines cut and which engrave?

In the SVG, red hairlines are cut lines and black filled shapes are engraving. Set those two in your laser software.

Can I sell what I make?

On Pro and Ultimate you can sell the prints you make, for example on Etsy or at craft fairs, for as long as your membership is active: if it ends, stop selling them. On Free and Maker, print it for yourself or give it as a gift. The PDF itself is never for sharing or selling.
